Acts 10:34-43
When God gave vision it will surely change our perspectives and paradigm. Both visions were given to Captain Cornelius and Apostle Peter and consequently it changes their attitudes and perspectives towards themselves and the work of the Lord. Both Cornelius and Peter’s paradigm expands.
In this episode in the book of ACTS, the word of the Lord has reached the Gentiles, and it reaches the military bastion of Ceasarea. The meeting of two different orientations. Cornelius as a religious, cultured-centered Roman captain. God-fearing and yet “not saved,” and Peter who was a hardcore Jewish background Christian. And yet by God’s providence move in a very special and supernatural way to breakthrough the Gentiles world.
- Supernatural Revelation. V.9-16. God expands Peter’s horizon and help him “get out of the box” of his cultural prejudices. God gave him an education that led to a new conviction. God gave Peter a lesson through the vision of blanket with many unclean animals for the Jews. God wants Peter to have newness of attitudes towards the Gentiles.
- Supernatural Invitation. V.17-23. God sends associates o Cornelius to invite Peter to enter a new scope of ministry to the Gentiles. Peter will have a new exposure that will led to a new compassion. Sometimes we need to see the need and expose to that need and feel that need to have compassion. Jesus saw the need of mankind and he was filled with compassion seeing them as sheep without a shepherd. Some Christian are like people with “agimat o anting-anting na hidi tinatalaban. Minsan dir in sila tinatalaban ng salita ng Dios.” We need to have compassion for souls and go to them and share the love of God.
- Supernatural confirmation. V.24-35. God confirmed this enlarged vision with a receptive Cornelius, and signs following his genuine conversion. Cornelius had an experience that led to a new commitment. This experienced usher in the first Gentiles Pentecost. When God wants to draw new kind of obedience from His servants, He almost always communicates fresh vision just like what He did to Peter and Cornelius.
Lessons we must learn from this episode:
- God is no respecter of persons. He has no favoritism.
- Vision does not only changes our perspectives it also changes our attitudes.
- Obedience is always the key for all the miracles in this life.
God Bless us All!
